Singhet ende weset vro

Singhet ende weset vro.jpg

Opening night: 22 December 2006, KVS, Brussels

A Christmas celebration with the entire family.
Where there is both singing and quarrelling.
Where people love each other but where a few plates will also get thrown.
Where people bellow out Flemish nationalism yet love for Belgium is held in high esteem.
Where devotion to the Virgin Mary is still alive but where faith is also an empty shell.
Where life is playful and tough as nails.

The director Ruud Gielens took as his starting point the old Flemish songs in the songbook Singhet ende weset vro, and puts many a Flemish symbol on the rack.

“Singhet ende weset vro cheerfully stirs up the melting pot that this part of the country is, to the sorrow of those who envy it. Flag-wavers with a political tint? Why not?” (Knack)
